Find airlines that offer the best deals. They also have a calendar view that lets you see which days are cheapest to fly and an option to select take me anywhere.  I like them because they also search budget and smaller airline sites as well, and gives you a wide array of choices.



Similar to Momondo it allows you to  choose the cheapest place to visit by selecting take you anywhere. When I start a flight search, I often like to start with Skyscanner or Momondo and compare. 



Google Flights

Type in your airport and when you want to go, and Google will show you all the flights in the world leaving from that airport and the best prices to leave and return from. This is great for when you’re just looking for the cheapest place to visit.

If you are going to visit Europe and plan to take a lot of long train trips, get a rail pass. You will save money. I’ve used a rail pass on three trips and saved hundreds of dollars each time. The math just works out for long train trips.

Japan Rail Pass

If you are going to visit Japan and visiting not just Tokyo but plan to visit several cities, like Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima taking a lot of train trips, get a JR pass. You will save a lot of money as it is a lot cheaper than buying individual train tickets. It allows you to travel on Shinkansen (their high speed bullet train) and all access to the Japan Rail (JR) network nationwide
